Information on Kerala:

              The state of Kerala, is a verdant land interspersed with mountains, forests, and beaches, thus aptly known as “Gods Own Country”, and is certainly a traveler’s delight. The state itself has three distinct travel circuits and gives a traveler a choice of destinations.

           The areas covering North Kerala are Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, and Mallapuram belt. The Central portion covers Alapuzha, Idyllic, Kottayam and Ernakulam and the Southern part covers, Kollam and Tiruvanthapuram. Though Kanya Kumari, is not part of the State, from a traveler’s perspective, Kanya Kumari holds tourist potential and is generally clubbed with the southern circuit.

  Major airports are Tiruvanthapuram and also the state capital is in the south. Cochin is roughly in the centre of the state and Calicut (Kozhikode). International flights, notably from the Gulf, are regularly serviced from all the 3 airports. circuit.

                   The railways have a good network in the State, running from North to South. All major Indian cities are covered by the rail network. The cities covered by train includes, Mumbai, Goa, Bangalore, Chennai, Secunderabad and a daily service exists to all the cities mentioned. Traveling along the West Coast say from Goa into Kerala is a visual treat along the Konkan route.

ONAM

Onam is the largest or the traditional ten day harvest festival of Kerala celebrated in the month of August - September (starting of the Chingam month of Malayalam Calendar) with much grandeur and fanfare.  No wonder the king of festivals in Kerala “Onam” continue its charm and rituals from  first to ten days, but first day, “Atham” and tenth day, “Thiruonam” are most significant of all.

Vishu festival is the astrological New Year of Kerala celebrated in the month of April (first day of Malayalam month - Medam) is treated as good, lucky or fortunate day. There are many traditional vibrant rituals and customs performed by Keralites on Vishu day with fun, pleasure and happinessbut some of the major glimpse of Vishu festival are:Vishukani, Vishukaineetam and Vishu pulari.

TRISSUR POORAM

Thrissur Pooram is one of the wonderful and vibrant temple festivals of Kerala celebrated in the Malayalam month of Medam, which generally comes in April or May. It is a time for the two traditional groups “Paramekkavu” and “Thiruvambadi” to present or show their majesty or grandiosity by contesting or challenging with each other in terms of the clothed elephants and umbrellas. 

BOAT RACE
